Varadharaja Perumal Temple

Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple located on M.G.Road is believed to be the oldest temple in Pondicherry, dating back to 970 AD. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is famous for its Dravidian architectural patterns. This temple was built Cholas and later expanded by the Pandyas, This temples is famous for its five tiered Raja Gopuram and the enchanting idol of Lord Vishnu which is 5ft tall that stands in sanctum of the temple.

The temple also houses a sannidhi for goddess called as Perundevi thayar. In the temple there are the The idols of lord Rama, goddess Sita, lord Lakshmana, lord Hanuman, Lord Navaneetha Krishna, Sri Santhanagopala and Sri Venugopala. The major festivals celebrated in this temple are Sri Ramanavami festival, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Purattasi and Panguni . The temple also houses two great Vaishnava Acharyas, Nikamanda Mahadesikan and Manavalamamuni.

Timings: 6AM – 12PM and 4PM – 9PM.
