Ousteri Lake

Ousteri lake was one of the biggest lakes and lake is situ

ated at osudu village on Pondicherry – Villupuram Road. Spread across 390 hectares, the lake is situated between Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu.

Ousteri lake is declared as one of the Asia’s important wetl

ands and also lake was declared as a wildlife sanctuary by the government. The government had decided to promote and develop the lake to a full-fledged sanctuary. Golden Oriole, Painted Stork, White Ibis, Open bill Stork, Tailor Bird and Spotted Owlets are some of the unique bird species seen here.  Consisting of water, marsh and mudflats, this site is inhabited by more than 40 migratory birds. The vegetation ranges from small herbs to trees, which supports migratory as well as native birds.

ndicherry. Amongst the most popular in Pondicherry, birdwatching at Ousteri Lake offers a divine experience for the tourists.  Ousteri is a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers. And boating facility is available in the lake.
The visiting hours at Ousteri Lake is from 9AM – 5PM.
