French War Memorial

French War Memorial is one of the places to visit in Pondicherry at a distance of 3.5km from Pondicherry Bus Stand, it’s located in French Quarter(White Town).

During First World War, French War Memorial was built in 1971 for who laid down their lives to save the world and French War Memorial was built to commemorate the brave soldiers.

The Memorial has a life-size statue of a soldier leaning on a rifle with four stark white columns. There is an inscription on memorial that says “Aux combattants des Indes Francoises morts pour la patrie, 1914-1918” which means “French fighters of India who died for their country in 1914-1918”.

French War Memorial is a monument with a small garden and the memorial is a popular tourist attraction in Pondicherry. On every 14th of July the memorial is beautifully illuminate to celebrate on the “Bastille Day”.
